Just Looking
These photographs range, geographically, from California to Florida to Puerto Rico to right around the corner. They were taken between the early 1970s and 2010. Some of them grew out of an assignment from a client or from one of the two weekly newspapers I worked for over those years, which provided an opportunity for me to pursue my own interests after the assignment was completed.
This collection represents about 40 years' worth of my search for the "something else" that may be happening in any particular scene or event. Obviously, I am doing the looking, but the people are often looking back, taking command of the picture by their self-presentation.
Over the years this photographic adventure has not only been about the challenge of seeking the "something else" and the joy of capturing it, but also about the thrill of having "something else" creep into the photo without my knowing, lurking there, waiting for a second look to be recognized.
